Dr. Skliar's lab is studying the biophysical and molecular properties of exosomes and their diagnostic and therapeutic applications. He also is working on the development of ultrasound sensors and methods for noninvasive characterization of solid components of energy conversion and other processes.

Professor (Lecturer)
Dr. Butterfield?s primary research centers on engineering education, particularly in the areas of project-based learning for first-year engineering students. He also conducts research on K-12 engineering outreach and citizen scientist efforts, focusing on low-cost distributed sensing networks. Dr. Butterfield is the founding chair of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' LGBTQ+ & Allies Committee, and the founding faculty advisor for University of Utah?s oSTEM group. He has brought STEM-specific EDI trainings to scores of professional conferences and engineering departments. Dr. Butterfield has received the Award for Innovation in Chemical Engineering Education from the AIChE; the GLBT Educator of the Year award from Out to Innovate; and the Corcoran and Quinn Awards from ASEE for his education research and efforts to make engineering a more welcoming profession for all.
